SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (Nov. 11) - The Wheeling Jesuit University women's basketball team was handed an 85-53 loss by Shippensburg to close out the Wolf Bus Lines Classic Sunday afternoon.
Both the Cardinals and the Raiders moved to 1-1 following the contest.
Nine different players scored points for Wheeling Jesuit, with sophomore guard
Tori Harrison (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) leading the team with 10 points in the loss. Following the game, both senior forward
Chenelle Moore (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) and junior guard
Khira Burton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) were named to the all-tournament team.
Shippensburg opened the game on a 12-4 run over the first seven minutes, but a quick 10-to-4 spurt by Wheeling Jesuit had the Cardinals right back in the game at 16-12 entering the second quarter.
The host-Raiders never allowed WJU to get any closer and held the Cardinals to just eight points in the second quarter to head into halftime ahead 34-20. Shippensburg continued to add to its lead in the second half and squashed any attempts by Wheeling Jesuit to get back into the contest.
WJU was limited to a 17 of 72 (24 percent) shooting performance from the field in the loss, while the Raiders managed to convert 31 of 59 (53 percent) attempts. Shippensburg also head a 55-to-35 advantage on the glass.
The Cardinals will look to get back on track this Tuesday, November 13 when they play their home-opener against No. 11 Edinboro in a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m.
