Wheeling Jesuit comes up short versus Concord, 2-3

WHEELING, W.Va. (Oct. 7) - Despite two goals by senior Emily Hartley (Coshocton, Ohio/Coshocton), the Wheeling Jesuit women's soccer team was dealt a 3-2 loss by Concord in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) match on Sunday at Bishop Schmitt Field.

The loss drops the Cardinals to 2-9 and 1-6 in the MEC, while Concord improves to 6-3-2 overall, 4-2-1 in league play.

Hartley scored the first goal in the match by chipping the ball over the Concord goalkeeper to put the Cardinals up 1-0 early in the match. The Mountain Lions answered with a goal in the 34th-minute to send the game into halftime tied at 1-1.

The Mountain Lions tallied two goals within two minutes of each other in the second half to establish a 3-1 lead in the 57th-minute.

The Cardinals attempted to respond andtook several shots, including three on goal by sophomore Marley Magruder (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor), but none found their intended target until late in the game.

Hartley put the ball in the back of the net once again off of a pass from senior Karly Judy (Vanderbilt, Pa./Geibel Catholic) in the 88th minute to help spur a last minute push by the Cardinals, but time ran out and allowed Concord to earn the win.

Sophomore goalkeeper Asya Carney (Moundsville, W. Va./John Marshall) recorded a new career-high with 13 saves in net. Concord attempted a total of 28 shots in the match.

Wheeling Jesuit returns to Bishop Schmitt Field for a conference matchup at home against Shepherd on Wednesday, October 10 at 5:30 p.m.
