WHEELING, W.Va. (Oct. 27) – The No. 18 Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-0 wins over Concord and Virginia State Saturday afternoon inside the McDonough Center. The victory over Concord clinched hosting rights in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Tournament next month for the Cardinals.

Wheeling Jesuit improves to 28-3 overall with a perfect 13-0 mark in league play. The Mountain Lions drop to 5-24, 2-11 in the MEC, while the Cavaliers move to 19-9 overall this season.

The Cardinals dispatched the Mountain Lions in three sets to confirm the destination of this year's MEC Tournament.

Haley Kramer (Norwalk, Ohio/Monroeville) finished with 14 kills and six blocks on defense. Sophomore
Cassie Meyer (Jackson Center, Ohio/Jackson Center) registered her 18
thkill-dig double-double of the season with 11 kills and 13 digs.

Stephanie Sylvester (Oregon, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) guided the offense with 38 assists, while junior
Audrey Francis (Sidney, Ohio/Fairlawn) led the defense with 17 digs.

Wheeling Jesuit opened the first set with seven-unanswered points to establish a tone early on. Concord got as close as four, 11-7, but never threatened the Cardinals in a 25-13 win.

WJU had another strong open, but the Mountain Lions countered with a run to take a 15-13 lead in the second set. The Cardinals recovered and took 12 of the final 19 points to run out to a 2-0 lead in the match. WJU built up a lead of 19-9 in the third set, before closing out the sweep.

The Cardinals closed out the day with a convincing 3-0 non-conference win over Virginia State.Â

Makenna Babb (Arlington, Ohio/McComb) finished with 11 kills, while Sylvester posted 40 assists to lead the team to the win.

The Cardinals posted a .288 hitting percentage with 43 kills on 104 attacks (13 errors) and limited the Trojans to a .115-mark with only 34 kills on 113 attacks (21 errors).

The Trojans currently lead the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA) Northern Division at 11-4. Concord defeated Virginia State 3-1 in the second match of the day.

The Cardinals will travel up the hill to West Liberty on Tuesday, October 30 for a MEC match at 7 p.m.Â
