No. 18 Cardinals race past UVa.-Wise, 3-0

WHEELING, W.Va. (Oct. 26) – The Wheeling Jesuit University volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-18) win over UVa.-Wise Friday night inside the McDonough Center.
 
The win improves the Cardinals to 26-3 overall and 12-0 in the Mountain East Conference (MEC). Meanwhile, the Cavaliers fall to 2-9 in the MEC, 5-20 overall this season.
 
Sophomore Cassie Meyer (Jackson Center, Ohio/Jackson Center) turned in her 17thkill-dig double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. She now has recorded a double-double in six-straight matches. 
 
Junior setter Stephanie Sylvester (Oregon, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) tossed around 39 assists, while sophomore Kenzie Schroer (New Knoxville, Ohio/New Knoxville) finished with a balanced line of eight kills, six assists and three service aces.
 
Junior Audrey Francis (Sidney, Ohio/Fairlawn) led the defensive efforts with 22 digs in the win.
 
The Cardinals opened up an 8-2 lead to start the first set and never looked back. Wise never got closer than four points, before WJU closed out the set at 25-13.
 
Wheeling Jesuit tweaked its lineup in the second set, but still came away with a comfortable 25-19 win that was clinched with a kill by sophomore Chase Cole (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville).
 
UVa.-Wise secured its first leads of the match at 2-1 and 5-4, but were unable to hold down the Cardinals any further. WJU led 12-10 when they went on a quick 6-1 spurt to establish an 18-11 advantage. The two teams traded points before kills by Cole, junior Aleah Stauffer (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville) and redshirt-sophomore Breanna Kramer (Norwalk, Ohio/Monroeville) clinched the win at 25-18 for the Cards.
 
The Cardinals hit .330 for the match with 54 kills on 115 attacks. They limited the Cavaliers to a .140 hitting percentage and just 26 kills on 107 attacks.
 
WJU is back at it tomorrow with a tri-match against Concord and Virginia State. The first match of the day begins at 11 a.m. between the Cardinals and Concord.
