WHEELING, W.Va. – Unlike the first meeting, the Cardinals only led one time Wednedsay night and it didn't turn out to be at the final buzzer. Fairmont State held off Wheeling Jesuit and edged out a 62-60 women's basketball victory.

A Cassi Stein layup with 9:25 in the second quarter gave WJU (8-11/6-7 Mountain East Conference) its only lead of the night, 13-12. But in the final minute, the visiting Falcons (9-9/5-8 MEC) did just enough to hold the lead, including leading by only a point twice – a Stein 3-pointer with 14 seconds and a Monica Burns trey with under four seconds.

The MEC Player of the Week Chenelle Moore continued her torid pace. The junior had a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds in the first half, before she finished with 18 points on 7 of 9 shooting and a career-high 20 rebounds.

Stein hit for a season-high 15 points, while Mariah Callen and Burns added 11 and 10 points.

Fairmont State was able to hold WJU to 20 of 62 for the game (32.3%) and outrebounded the home team, 47-43.

The Falcons' Sierra Kotchman hit for a game-best 21 points to lead in the win.

WJU heads on the road for a Saturday contest, Jan. 27, at Shepherd. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
