Cardinals Ride Strong Start, Hold Cavaliers At Bay in Second Half in Win

WISE, Va. – The Cardinals rode a strong start and hot-long rage shooting in the first half. Wheeling Jesuit held UVa.-Wise at bay in the second half on its way to an 86-72 men's basketball Saturday afternoon victory.

The No. 19 Cardinals (13-2/9-1 Mountain East Conference) went on a 15-5 run early in the first half powered by a pair of Haywood Highsmith deep 3-pointers for a 23-10 lead 9:30 into the contest. WJU added five more treys in the opening 20 minutes for a 12-point halftime lead and never led the Cavaliers (6-10/4-6 MEC) any closer than nine points in the final half.

"Nice team win! Haywood did a great job scoring the ball and rebounding the ball, while Jeremiah (Wilson) did a great job with a double-double," noted Cardinals head coach Danny Sancomb. "Pat (Moseh) made plays for his teammates and scored the ball (great job on the glass). Drake Goddard and Preston (Boswell) did a nice job making plays and scoring the ball. Brent (Pegram) and Ryan Cooper did a nice job off the bench."
