Solid-Shooting Cardinals Prove Too Much for Falcons

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Cardinals home fines proved to be of their liking Wednesday night. Wheeling Jesuit connected on half its shots and downed 13 treys on its way to surpassing the century mark for the second time this season in a 105-86 win over Notre Dame College in Mountain East Conference men's basketball.

The No. 16 Cardinals (14-2/10-1 MEC) finished the first half on a 20-4 run to break open the contest to a tune of 61-45. The Falcons (4-13/2-9 MEC) pulled to within a dozen three times in the second stanza, but the home club allowed them no closer.

"A great team win. I am happy with how we moved the ball and played on both ends," said WJU head coach Danny Sancomb. "Drake Goddard got us off to a good start and Preston (Boswell) had a great first half. We were patient against their zone and our bench gave us some productive minutes."

For the second game in a row, WJU placed all five started in double-digit points. Pat Moseh came close, again, to a triple-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists to lead the home team.

Boswell hit for 20 of his team-high 22 points in the first half, including four from long-range to go with five assists. Goddard downed three early triples on his way to a season-best 16 points and five assists.

After seeing his double-double streak snapped last Saturday, Haywood Highsmith returned to the production with 17 points and 10 boards. Highsmith added five assists and three blocks. Jeremiah Wilson helped inside with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Brent Pegram came off the bench for seven points and three assists.

Notre Dame College saw Drew Scarberry down a game-high 28 points, 19 in the first half, while he pulled down nine rebounds.

WJU forced 20 visitor turnovers and outrebounded its opponent, 40-31, including 16 offensive boards.

The Cardinals move on to host the No. 1 Hilltoppers of West Liberty on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 20, in a 4 p.m. contest.
