WHEELING, W.Va. – Despite being on the offensive all of the first half, the Cardinals came up short of putting the ball in the goal. Concord converted one time each half and held Wheeling Jesuit scoreless in women's soccer for the 2-0 final.
The Cardinals (3-6/2-5 Mountain East Conference) put two first-half rushes together with two shots on goal each half, but paydirt alluded them. Sarah Hall (28:55) and then Courtney Wallace off a deflection (60:29) scored for the Mountain Lions (5-5/3-5 MEC).
At 4:10 into the match,
Kayla Klock put the first Cardinals shot on goal.
Kendra Benzel fired an attempt high 1:13 later, before
Emily Hartley boomed one that was saved at 6:20.
WJU goalie
Hannah Thompson made three of her nine saves over the next 10 minutes.
Allyson Evans made back-to-back boots on goal at both 16:32 and 19:55.
Jenny Soegaard-Andersen added her own attempt (26:22). Hill made what would be the game-winner for the visiting Mountain Lions less than three minutes later.
WJU stays at home for a Tuesday night, Oct. 3, match against Shepherd starting at 8 p.m.
