BUCHANNON, W.Va. – No. 13 West Virginia Wesleyan put the first three goals on the scoreboard and the margin proved too much for Wheeling Jesuit women's soccer in a 5-1 Saturday evening final.

After a 2-0 first half, the Bobcats (6-0-1/5-0 Mountain East Conference) made it 3-0 on an Amy Stewart goal 2:30 into the second 45 minutes. Emily Hartley crossed the ball and Jenny Soegaard-Andersen booted it into the goal 52 seconds later (48:22) for the Cardinals (2-4/1-3 MEC) goal.

The visitor momentum did not last as West Virginia Wesleyan made it a three-goal game for a second time 1:29 later and put a fifth tally to its total in the 67^th minute.

WJU had a late four shots on goal in an attempt to cut into the deficit. Karly Judy had the first try at 71:45. Allyson Evans and Soegaard-Andersen added hard strikes minutes later (74:05 and 78:10). Maria Ruggery had the Cardinals final of their seven shots on goal at 83:25. Evans also had a pair of first half shots on the net.

Hannah Thompson stopped eight Bobcats shots. Despite a four-goal final difference, West Virginia Wesleyan outshot WJU by only four, 18-14.

The Cardinals have three days off, before they host the Falcons of Fairmont State on Wednesday night, Sept. 27, in a 7:30 p.m. match.
