First half goals help Cardinals post win over Blue Knights

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Cardinals took advantage of first-half opportunities Saturday night. Wheeling Jesuit received a Kayla Klock penalty kick and Jenny Soegaard-Andersen added a second to post its first win of the season, 2-0, over Urbana.

The Cardinals (1-4/1-3 Mountain East Conference) saw Klock taken down in the box at 13:02. She gathered herself and converted for the night's first tally. Brianna Murgi found Soegaard-Andersen 18 minutes later (30:10) and made it 2-0.

WJU held Urbana (1-5/1-4 MEC) to only seven shots, including a 9-4 first 45-minute advantage. Hannah Thompson saved three Blue Knight attempts for her first shutout of the fall season.

WJU will now try to make it two in a row in a Tuesday night, Sept. 19, non-conference meeting with Pitt-Johnstown. Kick-off is 7 p.m.
