WJU Flies by Notre Dame on Senior Day

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team flew past the Notre Dame College Falcons, 20-5, on Senior Day. 
 
Eight WJU seniors were honored before the start of the match. In their time as Cardinals, these eight ladies have combined for 419 goals, 221 assists, 645 ground balls, and 34 wins. 
 
The Cardinals (7-7, 4-0 MEC) and Falcons (2-9, 0-4 MEC) were tied 1-1 just three minutes into the action. WJU, however, would rattle off 11 straight scores to take a 12-1 lead with 13:40 remaining in the first half. 
 
The Falcons scored just before the horn sounded for the half, but WJU maintained a convincing lead at the intermission, 14-3. 
 
Taelor Mailloux and Kori Hickman scored goals in the first six minutes of the second half to send the Cardinals ahead by 13, 16-3. Darbie Barkman answered with a Falcon score at the 20 minute mark, but the Cardinals would claim four of the last five scores to win, 20-5. 
 
Eily Cogan and Mia Gilardi each scored their first goal of the season in the Wheeling Jesuit victory. 
 
Elizabeth Hales led the way with 11 points, as she scored five times and handed out six assists. She also caused three turnovers and scooped up four ground balls. Hales is the all-time leader in points as a Cardinal with 314 over her four-year career.
 
Hickman scored twice and assisted on four other scores for her six-point game. Olivia Krock added three goals to the WJU total while Markie Wright finished with a goal and an assist. 
 
Gilardi, Paige Plesich, Mailloux, Kate Calder, Ally Coggins, Mary Burns, Holly Deckert, Tayor Booth, and Cogan each scored one goal on the afternoon. 
 
Lyndsay Carpenter scooped up four ground balls and caused three turnovers to lead the defense. Taylor Quigg caused two turnovers and won one draw control. Maire Austin stopped four shots and Renee Cline saved five. 
 
Wheeling Jesuit completes the regular season on Friday, April 28 when it travels to Charleston, West Virginia.
