Cards Split Doubleheader with Falcons

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals and the Notre Dame Falcons split Sunday's doubleheader one game apiece.
 
The Cardinals claimed game one, 5-4, before Notre Dame prevailed 7-1 in game two.  
 
Game 1 notes: 
Winning pitcher – Kyle Rees (1-3)
Losing pitcher – Kenny Pierson (3-4)
Save – Dillon Sunnafrank (2)
 
Recap: 
After two innings of play, Wheeling Jesuit led 3-0. Dalton Davis doubled home Drake May in the first inning, and Christopher Brake doubled to score RJ Harris in the second. Cody Hudson drove in Adam Dennison to put the Cardinals ahead by three. 
 
WJU added two more runs in the top of the third when Matthew Angelini singled to center to score Davis. Harris later grounded out to third to score Dillon Sunnafrank.
 
Notre Dame answered with three in the third inning and one in the sixth, but Sunnafrank shut the door with a two-inning save. He struck out five of the six hitters he faced. Kyle Rees tossed five innings and gave up six hits and three runs. 
 
 
Game 2 notes: 
Winning pitcher – Jeff Stover (3-0)
Losing pitcher – Nick Luciano (0-2)
 
Recap: 
The Cardinals struck first with their lone run of the game in the top of the third inning. Jagger Bruck crossed home plate on a passed ball.
 
Notre Dame answered with one in the third, two in the fifth, and four in the sixth to push its way past Wheeling Jesuit, 7-1. 
 
Logan Schickler and Bruck finished with two hits apiece. Dalton Davis and Carter Sancomb each added one base hit to the Cardinals total. 
 
Brian Shaw tossed four innings and gave up zero earned runs. Luciano took the loss, throwing one inning and allowing six earned runs to score. Tanner Evans completed three scoreless frames for the Cardinals.
