Cardinals & Blue Knights Split Doubleheader

WHEELING, W.Va. - The Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals and the Urbana University Blue Knights split Sunday's doubleheader one game apiece.
 
Wheeling Jesuit led 10-1 in game one and went on to win, 10-9. In game two, WJU led 1-0 before Urbana scored once in the sixth and three timesa in the seventh to win, 4-1.   
 
Game 1 notes:
Winning pitcher – Michael Finch (3-3)
Losing pitcher – Patrick Orr (1-5)
 
Recap:
Adam Dennison singled to the left centerfield gap to put Wheeling Jesuit ahead 1-0 in the second frame. Christopher Minder scored on the base knock.
 
Urbana tied the game at one apiece in the top of the third before freshman Drake May crushed a homerun over the left field wall to regain WJU's lead, 2-1.
 
The Cardinals plated six runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-1 lead.
 
Dennison scored on a Jagger Bruck single before Christopher Brake singled through the right side to score Bruck. Dillon Sunnafrank tripled to right field to score Brake and May. Dalton Davis later doubled to left and Sunnafrank crossed home. Minder grounded into a double play but scored Davis to send WJU ahead by seven, 8-1.
 
Cody Hudson singled in the sixth inning to score Sunnafrank and Brake again, helping the Cards to a 10-1 lead.
 
Urbana scored eight times in the seventh inning before Tanner Evans came in and retired the final batter of the contest.
 
Brake led all hitters with a 3-4 effort. He scored twice and drove in one run. May, Hudson, and Dennison each finished with a pair of hits. Hudson and Sunnafrank each finished with two RBI's.
 
Finch earned his third victory of the season, tossing four innings of three hit baseball while allowing just one run.
 
 
Game 2 notes:
Winning pitcher – Adam Guay (6-1)
Losing pitcher – Kyle Rees (1-4)
 
Recap:
WJU took a 1-0 advantage in the fourth inning when Dennison scored on a wild pitch by Urbana starter Adam Guay.
 
Neither club would score until the sixth frame when WJU reliever Kyle Rees balked home the game-tying run.  Rees would go on to strike out the side, but the Blue Knights would claim the lead in the top half of the seventh.
 
A bases-clearing Blue Knight double to right gave Urbana a 4-1 lead heading into the home half of the seventh, where Guay would shut down any hopes of a WJU comeback.
 
May finished game two 2-3 at the plate while Logan Schickler added the third WJU hit.
