Shaw Strong Start, Cardinals Come up Short Against Pioneers

CANTON, Ohio – Freshman Brian Shaw pitched a strong five innings of game two, but the Wheeling Jesuit baseball team's offense was held in check by Malone in two Thursday afternoon losses, 6-0 and 1-0.

Chris Minder lined a first-inning single, but was stranded at third base following Dalton Davis' double. Malone (26-14) scored at least one run in four of its six at bats for a 6-0 opening victory.

In game two, Drake May drew a fourth-inning walk and TJ Jacob lined a two-out, sixth-frame single to center field. They were the lone two Cardinals (4-28) base runners. Shaw allowed a first-inning earned run, but no more as the first-year pitcher gave up six hits and struck out four over five innings.

Minder went 2 for 3 in game one as the lone multi-hit WJU batter. Matt Angelini added a single.

WJU stays on the road for a 1 p.m. Saturday twinbill at Notre Dame College.
