No. 12 Bobcats Keep Cardinals Offense Quiet, Take Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The No. 12-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan softball team kept the Wheeling Jesuit offense quiet and took both ends of Saturday's doubleheader, 1-0 and 8-0.

The Cardinals (16-18/10-12 Mountain East Conference North) could not capitalize with runners on base in the opener nor Mallory Chapman scattering five hits and only one earned run in the tough 1-0 loss to the Bobcats (30-6/18-4 MEC South).

West Virginia Wesleyan slugged three game-two home runs and WJU managed only three singles in the run-rule late contest.

Molly Welsh recorded a 3 for 5 day at the plate and led the WJU offense. Morgan Stohlman added a pair of singles, while Dana Achille and Chapman had one single each.

WJU returns to action at Ashland in a non-MEC twinbill Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.

Game 1
With one out in the top of the fourth, Welsh and Achille manned first and second bases after singles. A fielder's choice and fly out ended the Cardinals threat.

The Bobcats drew a lead off walk, sacrifice bunt and a Brooklyn Waddell RBI single for the 1-0 lead.

Stohlman singled in the fifth and walked in the seventh, but was left on base both times.

Game 2
Behind Welsh first, Chapman second and Stohlman fifth-frame singles, WJU put a runner on base in each inning, but fell short of scoring any runner.

West Virginia Wesleyan plated four in the second and three in the fourth, before ending the game with one out in the fifth for the 8-0 win.
