Women’s Lacrosse – Game Preview – Cards Host Fighting Scots Tuesday

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team returns north from its Florida spring trip to host the Edinboro Fighting Scots on Tuesday, February 7 at 6 p.m.

The Cardinals enter Tuesday's matchup 1-3 on the season, with a pair of losses coming in Florida to ranked opponents, Florida Tech and Rollins College.

In WJU's home opener on February 26, the Cardinals outlasted Roberts Wesleyan, 11-10. Kori Hickman led WJU with four points, one goal and three assists. Freshman attacker Hayley Holmquist scored a team best three goals on four shots. Elizabeth Hales scored twice and assisted on another score for her three points. Paige Plesich and Mary Burns each scored once and assisted on another goal. Markie Wright, Taylor Booth and Ally Coggins each found the back of the net once.

Tuesday will mark Edinboro's season-opener. Emily Peters leads the Scots' returners with 35 goals a year ago. Peters assisted on seven other scores, finishing with 42 points. Edinboro finished last season at a 7-10 mark.

In the 2016 meeting between Wheeling Jesuit and Edinboro, the Fighting Scots shot their way past the Cardinals, 11-8, in Wheeling. Hales scored four times and assisted on two others, finishing with six points. Wright recorded an all-around game consisting of one goal, three ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls. Edinboro was led by two goals each from Emily Peters and Alexa Healy.

WJU next competes against Ohio Valley on Tuesday, March 14 at 6 p.m. on Bishop Schmitt Field.
