Cardinals Rush Past Wildcats, 15-5

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team rushed out of the gate and defeated the visiting Northern Michigan Wildcats, 15-5, on Saturday afternoon.

Lyndsay Carpenter started at midfield for the second straight game due to the absence of Markie Wright and Kori Hickman from the WJU lineup. Carpenter scored the first WJU goal of the afternoon before NMU scored its only goal of the first half, tying the match at one apiece.

The Cardinals would rattle off nine-straight scores from six different players to take a 10-1 lead into the half.

NMU claimed four of the first five strikes of the second half, though, and would trail by just six, 11-5, with 20:30 remaining. WJU called a timeout and responded accordingly, scoring the final four goals of the afternoon and clinching the 10-goal victory, 15-5.

Elizabeth Hales led all scorers with four goals and three assists for seven points. Carpenter scored three goals while Olivia Krock, Ally Coggins, and Kate Calder each scored twice. Mary Burns charted one goal and two assists for three points. Sarah Artzer scored her first collegiate goal.

Holly Deckert led the WJU defense with five caused turnovers and six ground balls. Taylor Quigg finished with three ground balls and three forced turnovers while Brianna Wahle chipped in one of each.
The Cardinals return to action on April 5 when they travel to Slippery Rock for a 5 p.m. contest.
