WHEELING, W.Va. – After falling 12-2 in game one, the Wheeling Jesuit baseball team had its chance to claim the second game win and the series split, but the Concord Mountain Lions had other plans in mind.

With WJU ahead 7-5 heading into the ninth inning, Concord scored six runs in the top half of the frame and outlasted the Cardinals, 11-7.

Game 1 notes:

Losing pitcher – Josh Bell (1-3)

Recap:
WJU led Concord 1-0 after four frames, as Dillon Sunnafrank singled home Cody Hudson in the third inning to give WJU the brief lead.

Concord erupted for 11 runs in the fifth, seven of which were unearned, and would go on to win the matchup, 12-2.

RJ Harris blasted his first collegiate homerun in the seventh inning for the Cardinals.

Game 2 notes:

Losing pitcher – Nick Luciano (0-1)

Recap:
Concord flew to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first, but WJU scored once in the first to cut the lead to two runs, 3-1. Dalton Davis tripled home Sunnafrank for the Cardinals first run.

In the home half of the third, Sunnafrank doubled to left to score Jeffery Patrick. Davis later singled to left and scored Christopher Brake to tie the contest at three apiece.

In the fifth inning, Davis hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field and Cody Hudson scored, sending WJU ahead, 4-3. Harris later singled home a hustling Sunnafrank to put WJU up by two, 5-3.

Concord tied the game at five apiece in the sixth, but the Cardinals climbed back ahead by two runs in the eighth.

Patrick laid down a suicide squeeze bunt that led to a base hit single as he beat out the throw, scoring Adam Dennison, the go ahead run. Bruck was hit by the next pitch and Zach Bluming scored, putting WJU ahead 7-5 heading into the ninth inning.

Concord rattled off six scores in the top of the ninth and defeated the Cardinals, 11-7.

Senior Kyle Rees started for WJU and lasted 5.2 innings while allowing four earned to score. Luciano was tagged with the loss, throwing three innings and giving up six runs, four of which earned. Tanner Evans threw the final out.
