WJU Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Preview -- Cards Welcome Storm & Wildcats

WHEELING, W.Va. – After a weekend trip to Tiffin and the University of Indianapolis, the Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team returns to its home turf to host a pair of games this week. 
 
WJU welcomes the Lake Erie College Storm on Thursday, March 23 before hosting the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Saturday. 
 
Wheeling Jesuit enters Thursday 2-5 on the season, as the Cardinals dropped both contests over the weekend. WJU first fell to Tiffin, 15-7, before losing to Indy, 18-8. In the two matches, Elizabeth Hales added nine points to her season total. 
 
Hales leads the WJU offense with 25 points – 17 goals and eight assists. Kori Hickman is the Cardinals leading assister with 12. Paige Plesich has scored eight goals and handed out four assists for 12 points on the season. Mary Burns adds six goals and three assists to the mix while Markie Wright has four goals and four assists on the season.
 
Lyndsay Carpenter leads WJU with 23 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers. Holly Deckert ranks second in both ground balls (13) and caused turnovers (11) while also winning 11 draw controls. Taylor Quigg has secured nine ground balls and forced seven turnovers while Brianna Wahle has started all seven games and picked up six ground balls and caused two turnovers. 
 
Maire Austin has started all seven games in the cage for WJU. Austin has faced 188 shots and charted 51 saves. 
 
WJU vs. Lake Erie Game Notes: 
The Cardinals and Storm have met twice in the past four seasons, with both meetings being played in Wheeling. In 2014, the Storm pushed past Wheeling Jesuit, 15-14. A year later, the Cardinals dropped another one-goal match, 14-13, to the Storm. 
 
In the 2015 meeting, Olivia Krock scored three goals, scooped up three ground balls, and won three draw controls. Hales finished with four points including three assists while Hickman, Plesich, and Burns all scored twice. 
 
Lake Erie rides a three-game win streak into Thursday, including their most recent victory over Davis and Elkins, 19-1, on March 17. The Storm flew past Mountain East Conference member Notre Dame College, 19-0, on March 5. The Storm average 30 shots and 16.3 goals per game. 
 
Anastasia Crawford guides Lake Erie with 13 points on the season. Anna Spin has totaled four goals and eight assists for her 12 points while Taylor Mathis has 11 points by way of 10 goals and a lone assist. 
 
WJU vs. Northern Michigan Game Notes: 
Saturday marks the first ever meeting between the Cardinals and Wildcats. Northern Michigan enters Saturday 1-4 in their first five matches of 2017. The Wildcats last match was against MEC member Shepherd University, in which the Rams knocked off the Wildcats, 16-9. NMU averages 21.2 shots and 9.3 goals per game.
 
Shelby Klotz leads the Wildcats with 14 points – 13 goals and one assist. Blair Osgood has 13 points by way of nine scores and four assists while Graison Kinglever has scored 10 goals and handed out one assist to date.
