Chapman 2-Run Homer Gives WJU Victory, KWC Takes Game 2

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – After a day off, Mallory Chapman pitched the victory and provided the offense via a two-run homer in a 2-1 Wheeling Jesuit softball win over Lake Erie College. The Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers took advantage of timely hitting for a 4-1 late afternoon win over the Cardinals.

Chapman fanned seven and allowed only a two-out single top-of-the second run in the circle. Following the Storm's run, the WJU (4-4) junior belted her own two-out hit over the fence and it was all the offense she needed in a 2-1 win over Lake Erie.

WJU managed only four second-game hits and scored it lone tally on a Kentucky Wesleyan error in the loss.

"A big day from Mal Chapman, both on the mound and at the plate. She no doubt sells out and gives her all when she steps on the field. Good all-around win for the team," pointed out WJU head coach Sara Pelegreen. "We didn't show up to play (against Kentucky Wesleyan). We were just going through the motions and teams will take advantage if you go through the motions. Erin (Unterbrink) pitched great, but we just didn't compliment her offensively."

Other than the Chapman home run, Rachel Conrad and Michaela Miller, both singled in both games. Jackie Cramer, Molly Welsh, Victoria Scott and Courtney Rogers each added one hit.

On Friday, the Cardinals wrap up their Florida 10-game trip. WJU faces Felician at 9 a.m. and Tiffin at 2 p.m.
