Cardinals Outlasted by Greyhounds, 18-8

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Trailing by just a pair of goals early in the second half, the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals were unable to outlast the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds Sunday afternoon. The hosting Greyhounds scored 11 of the final 14 goals to defeat WJU, 18-8.  
 
Elizabeth Hales pushed Wheeling Jesuit to a 1-0 advantage less than five minutes into the action. The University of Indianapolis Greyhounds would fire back, however, scoring the next six goals of the match. 
 
With 6:46 remaining in the first, Paige Plesich halted the Greyhounds run. Senior Mary Burns found Plesich open in front of the net and Plesich would do the rest, scoring WJU's second goal of the game. 
 
Hales added her second score of the game three minutes later and WJU had cut Indy's lead in half, 6-3. Markie Wright fired a shot with 18 seconds remaining in the first half to send the Cardinals into the locker room down by just two scores, 6-4. 
 
Maire Austin stopped seven shots in the first half while Lyndsay Carpenter picked up four ground balls and forced a turnover in the first 30 minutes.
 
Indy came out of the break firing, and scored in the first minute to grow its lead back to three, 7-4. 
 
Ally Coggins had an answer for the Cardinals, scoring two minutes later to tighten the match back up. 
 
The Greyhounds rattled off 11 of the final 14 scores to defeat the Cardinals by a score of 18-8. 
 
Hales led the WJU attack with three scores and an assist. Plesich scored twice while Hickman finished with an assist and a goal to her credit for two points. Coggins and Wright each scored once while Burns assisted on one goal.
 
Carpenter finished with four ground balls, two draw controls, and one caused turnover. Holly Deckert forced two turnovers and picked up two ground balls. Olivia Krock caused two turnovers, won one draw control, and scooped up a ground ball. 
 
The Cardinals return home for a Thursday night match with Lake Erie College. First draw is set for 7 p.m.
