WHEELING, W.Va. – In their first action in over two weeks, the Cardinals won a one-run pair on a chilly Sunday afternoon. Wheeling Jesuit held on for a 3-2 opener against Notre Dame College, before a three-run home seven and Courtney Rogers lined a ninth-inning run-scoring single to seal the sweep, 7-6.

WJU (7-5/2-0 Mountain East Conference North Division) opened a 3-0 lead with Rogers, Kelsi Thompson and Cassie Holstein RBI hits. Notre Dame College (8-7/0-2 MEC North) cut the margin to 3-2, but Mallory Chapman enticed the final two game one outs.

Trailing 6-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Molly Welsh singled and raced home on a Victoria Scott double for WJU's first run. After two outs, Dana Achille blasted a two-run home run to straight away center field for the 6-6 tie. Following a scoreless next 1.5 innings, Welsh led off with a single, stole second and Scott sacrificed her to third. Rogers lined the game winner to right field for the walkoff single and 7-6 win.

Rogers made her mark on the doubleheader. The sophomore drove in the opener's first run and added the final score. Rogers also logged a perfect final three innings in the game-two circle where she did not allow a hit, fanned one and walked three.

WJU totaled 24 hits over 15.2 innings, not bad for no live action since March 3 in Florida.

After struggling for her standards in Florida, Thompson went 4 for 6 with a double and an RBI on Sunday to increase her batting average by 92 points (.300).

Both Welsh and Holstein added three hits of their own. Welsh did her work in game two by going 3 for 5 with two runs and a stolen base. Holstein produced three singles in game one with a RBI.

Following a game-one single, Achille doubled and hit a two-run homer in the late contest. Taylor DiPerna doubled in game one and tripled in game two. Brianna Grimes added a double.

Chapman went the game-one distance for the win where she allowed only four hits and struck out six. She also logged 4.1 second-game frames and held the Cardinals in the game.

WJU returns to the field on Monday, March 20. The Cardinals host the Blue Knights of Urbana in a noon doubleheader.
