WJU Drops Doubleheader to Gannon

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – In Sunday's season opening twin bill versus the Gannon Golden Knights, the Wheeling Jesuit baseball team dropped both contests, 15-2 and 3-2.
 
Dillon Sunnafrank started game one for the Cardinals, lasting four innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out three. Freshman Drake May recorded the lone WJU hit, finishing 1-3 at the plate. Dalton Davis and Cody Hudson finished with one RBI apiece.
 
Junior transfer Michael Finch took the hill for game two and gave the Cardinals an impressive outing. Finch tossed five innings and struck out three while allowing just one run to cross the plate. The Golden Knights would score the two game-winning runs in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the doubleheader sweep.
 
Five Cardinals finished with a base hit in game two, led by Logan Schickler's two-run homer in the sixth inning. Jagger Bruck finished 1-2 with and scored a run.
 
WJU returns to action tomorrow, Monday Feb. 27 to face Tiffin University in a doubleheader.
