Lenoir-Rhyne Takes Second Half, Defeats WJU Men’s Lacrosse

HICKORY, N.C. – After a solid first half, the Cardinals men's lacrosse team was unable to keep the score in its favor. No. 14 Lenoir-Rhyne scored 13 second-half goals, including five in a row to start the final quarter, and defeated Wheeling Jesuit, 21-17, Saturday afternoon.
 
The Cardinals (0-3) netted five of the last six first-half scores, including a pair from Matt Lee, and took an 11-8 intermission advantage. The Bear (2-1) pelted 36 second-half shots on net and found the net 13 times for the win.
 
WJU was led by Dereck Downs' five goal and two assist performance. Lee equaled him with five scores of his own.
 
Travis Gets chipped in four goals and an assist. Joe Wright assisted on three and had two scores.
 
Goalie Jake Lilly stopped 13 Lenoir-Rhyne shots.
 
The Bears saw Eric Dickinson total six goals and an assist. The home team outshot the Cardinals, 60-37 and 36-14 in the last two periods.
 
WJU returns to action on the road next Thursday, Mar. 2, in a 7 p.m. match at Rollins College.
