Scots Third Quarter Overtakes Cardinals for Win

EDINBORO, Pa. – After a strong first-quarter start, the Cardinals were unable to keep the momentum. Edinboro finished the third quarter on a 15-3 run in the final 2:52 and rode it to a 77-67 win over the Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball team Wednesday night.

For the third-straight contest, the Cardinals (1-2) busted out of the gate with the night's first 13 points behind four Chenelle Moore buckets. By halftime, the Scots (3-0) cut the difference to four points, 34-30, before it made the game-deciding run to end the third period.

Moore finished the night with a double-double of 14 points on 6 of 13 from the floor and 13 rebounds. Mariah Callen hit for 15 points, five boards and five assists. Monica Burns rounded out the big three Cardinals with 13 tallies.

Edinboro forced WJU into 23 turnovers and it shot over 51.4-percent in the second half to pull ahead. The home team also held the Cardinals to 4 of 14 from long-range.

Jontay Walton led all scorers with 26 points, including five 3-pointers, and seven assists.

Trailing 62-48 heading into the fourth stanza, WJU was unable to get any closer than the 10-point margin on the last second inside shot by Burns for the 77-67 final.

WJU stays on the road for its final season-opening road swing with a 2 p.m. tilt at West Virginia Wesleyan to open Mountain East Conference play on Saturday, Nov. 18.
