WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – In a light one match week, the Cardinals worked through a three-set win. Wheeling Jesuit claimed a Mountain East Conference road win over rival West Liberty Thursday night, 3-0.

The Cardinals (14-4/5-0 MEC) built a 16-10 midway through the opening set, before they netted the final five points in a 25-14 win. The Hilltoppers (11-9/2-3 MEC) turned a 6-4 deficit into a 12-6 lead on one set-two rotation only to see the visitors answer with 10-straight points and the 25-22 score. WJU never trailed in the third set and held the home team at bay to complete the match win, 25-18.

Freshman Cassie Meyer paced the WJU frontline with 13 kills to go with eight digs and an ace. Both Haley Kramer and Maddy Smyth added six kills and combined for 10 total blocks.

Audrey Francis dug 25 West Liberty attacks to lead the defensive effort. Makenna Babb chipped in 12 digs and four kills, while Abby Moffit had 10 digs.

Stephanie Sylvester led the Cardinals offense with 32 assists, 11 digs and two kills.

The Hilltoppers received seven kills from both Caitlin Clarke and Raimey Benson.

WJU now has over a week off before playing at both West Virginia Wesleyan and Glenville State on Saturday, Oct. 14.
