Cardinals Produce Pair of Saturday Road MEC Victories

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON & GLENVILLE, W.Va. – After over a week off, the Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team produced a pair of straight-set Saturday Mountain East Conference victories at West Virginia Wesleyan and Glenville State.

The Cardinals (16-4/7-0 MEC) netted the final five first-set points and kept the momentum from there against the Bobcats (8-13/3-4 MEC) to a tune of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-12. Further down I-79 in the late afternoon, WJU made quick work of Glenville State (0-15/0-7 MEC) with sets of 25-8. 25-16 and 25-9.

Cassie Meyer paced the WJU attack with 25 kills in the six sets, including 14 against the Pioneers. Haley Kramer added 11 winners versus the Bobcats and another eight in the late contest.

Makenna Babb chipped in 16 kills on the day, while Abby Strait hit .545 with seven kills at Glenville State. Aleah Stauffer added five kills.

Chase Cole blocked five Glenville State attacks. Stephanie Sylvester handed out 70 set assists. Audrey Francis dug 35 attacks between the two opponents.

WJU returns home for three matches next week. The Cardinals begin the MEC second round by hosting the Hilltoppers of West Liberty Tuesday night, Oct. 17, in a 7 p.m. match.
