Blasiman Chips Cardinals Over Falcons

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – After nine scoring opportunities, it was the 10th attempts that was the Cardinals charm Wednesday night. Sarah Blasiman chipped the ball over the Fairmont State goalie in the 65th minute, and Wheeling Jesuit completed the 1-0 women's soccer shutout.
 
After three Emily Hartley boots the prior 19 minutes to open the second half, Blasiman lofted the ball over the charging Falcons (4-7-6/3-7-6 Mountain East Conference) goalkeeper into the back of the net, and netted the lone tally. WJU (5-11-1/4-10-1 MEC) allowed three home shots, but none on goal over the final 25 minutes.
 
The Cardinals finished with a shot advantage in each half and 10-7 for the game. Hannah Thompson registered her third shutout of the year and saved a pair of shots in the WJU net.
 
In the first half, Jenny Soegaard-Andersen opened the WJU attack with a shot at 7:19, before Micah Miller saw her attempt saved (14:09) and a second one go wide 30 seconds later. Soegaard-Andersen had her shot on goal saved at 36:47, while Thompson kept the game scoreless with a save as time ran out in the opening stanza.
 
WJU wraps up its 2017 campaign on Saturday afternoon for 'Senior Day' in a 4 p.m. match against West Virginia Wesleyan.
