Golden Eagles Record Victory with Two Late Winners Against Cardinals

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – After an even match for the first 64 minutes, the Charleston Golden Eagles took the lead in a Mountain East Conference women's soccer match with a goal and added a second for a 2-0 victory over the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals.

The first half ended scoreless with a shot difference of 4-2 in favor of Charleston (4-6-4/3-5-4 MEC). Wheeling Jesuit (4-10/3-9 MEC) had two scoring opportunities denied when Cameron Smith headed the ball at 50:57 and Soegaard-Andersen booted a shot high seconds later (51:13).

UC scored the first goal at 64:13 and followed up with a second tally in the 78th minute.

WJU fired five shots in the game. Soegaard-Andersen led the Cardinals´ attack with two shots, while Cameron Smith and Micah Miller each sent one shot on goal.

Junior goalie Hannah Thompson saved one shot before the teams went into the half-time break.

The Cardinals travel to Concord University for a 1:00 p.m. match Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 18.
