Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Consistent Cardinals Breeze Past Bobcats

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Cardinals bounced back after a tough Thursday night ending with a consistent four Sunday quarters. Wheeling Jesuit scored 20 points in each of the opening three frames and breezed past West Virginia Wesleyan women's basketball, 79-40.

"It was without a doubt our most complete game of the season," Cardinal head coach Debbie Buff added. "We got after Wesleyan defensively and shared the basketball for 40 minutes. We really did execute what had been our goal in the past two practices."

The Cardinals began the game with an 8-0 run and would never look back. WJU (11-2/5-2 Mountain East Conference) then used a combined 40-14 score over the duration of the second and third periods to pull away from the Bobcats (4-6/4-3 MEC), 60-30. The Cardinals added a 19-10 final quarter and finished with their most complete game of the season.

Monica Burns pumped in 16 points to lead the home effort. Jaana Motton and Kylie Frizell added two more Cardinals double figure producers with 12 and 10 points. Motton completed her double-double as she grabbed a game best 10 boards. Chenelle Moore added eight points while Lydia Hyburg and Mariah Callen each charted seven.

Chelsea Richardson, Khira Burton, Taliah Cashwell, Kiarra Kamarec and Deja Dabney also joined in on the Cardinals scoring.

WJU continues its home stand with a Tuesday clash with MEC co-leader Glenville State. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
