Weekend Preview: Cardinals Travel to Golden Eagles

WHEELING, W.Va. – The second of the two regular season meetings between the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals and the Charleston Golden Eagles will be played in Charleston, West Virginia Saturday afternoon. The two teams met in Wheeling on January 3, where the Cardinals knocked off the then 9-1 Golden Eagles, 94-77. Pat Moseh guided WJU with 18 points and nine rebounds while Chase Lawson scored 17 tallies. Kyle Ritz finished with 17 points and six boards and Haywood Highsmith added a double-double, 12 points and 15 rebounds.

The WJU men are 2-1 in their last three games and 12-1 over the last 13. In their last outing, the Cardinals flew past West Virginia State, 104-70. Pat Moseh led WJU with 20 points on 8-10 shooting. Preston Boswell, Chase Lawson and Haywood Highsmith added 17, 16 and 15 points, respectively.

WJU remains in third place in the league standings with a 17-2 mark, 11-2 in MEC play. As a team, the Cardinals are third in scoring offense (88.6), second in scoring defense (76), and third in scoring margin (+12.6). The Cardinal defense leads the conference by holding their opponents to 41 percent shooting.

Moseh continues to lead WJU with 15.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and three assists per game. The junior guard has scored 14 or more points in 10 consecutive outings, increasing his yearly output from 14.4 to 15.5. Boswell ranks 19^th in the MEC in scoring (14.3) and has scored in double figures in 17 straight games. Over the last three outings, Boswell has scored 18, 21 and 17 points. Highsmith is tied for the league lead in rebounding (10.9) and has nine double-doubles on the season.

Looking ahead, the WJU men travel to Fairmont State on Wednesday, February 1 for a 7:30 start.
