WJU Volleyball Overtakes Urbana

URBANA, Ohio – The Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team took control early and never let it go Saturday. The Cardinals overtook the Blue Knights of Urbana in straight sets.
 
No. 6 WJU (13-2/3-0 Mountain East Conference) scored the match's opening five points and raced to a 13-1 lead in the eventual 25-9 first set. Urbana (7-8/1-1 MEC) had its best showing the second set and led 9-8, before WJU ran off four points in a row and won 25-20. The Cardinals finished the match as they started in convincing fashion in a 25-8 final.
 
Breanna Kramer pounded a team-high 12 kills, hit .391, dug eight attacks and served two aces.
 
Haley Kindall was even more dominate at the net. The senior downed 10 kills without an error in 17 attacks for a .588 percentage and accounted for 10 total blocks.
 
As a team, WJU hit .400 with only seven attack errors. For the second day in a row, the Cardinals held their opponent to a negative hitting percentage as the Blue Knights hit -.010.
 
Kayce Krucki added eight kills, six digs and two block assists. Andrea Thobe handed out 31 assists to go with seven digs and three block assists. Rounding out the effort, Emma Schleucher hit five kills and was part of five blocks, while Sam Obringer recorded eight digs.
 
Urbana received six kills apiece from Katlynn Dunlap, Aleese Butler and Mari King.
 
WJU continues its two-week road swing with a 7 p.m. match at Concord University next Friday, Sept. 30.
