Cardinals Tame Mountain Lions

ATHENS, W.Va. – In an early Friday evening match, the Cardinals tamed the host Mountain Lions. The Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team marched to a 3-0 final over Concord by scores of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-16.
 
The No. 5 Cardinals (14-2/4-0 Mountain East Conference) posted three similar sets. WJU went out to a 13-7 advantage in each of the three sets against Concord (6-9/1-2 MEC). The visitors increased the lead to 22-10 in each of the first two sets and 20-12 in the third before they won each set.
 
As a team, WJU hit a torrid .465 rate with 54 kills and seven errors in 101 attacks. The Cards held another opponent to a bad hitting day of .111 and 14 attack errors.
 
Middle blocker Lauran Graves paced the Cards' attack with 10 kills without an error in 12 attempts for a .833 percentage. She also dug five attacks and helped on two block assists.
 
Emma Schleucher, Breanna Kramer and Sydney Obringer were right behind Graves with seven kills apiece. Schleucher had a .538 hitting clip, five digs, two block assists and an assist. Kramer had 10 digs and an ace, while Sydney Obringer finished without an error with a .636 attack percentage.
 
Sam Obringer dug 20 attacks and added two assists. Andrea Thobe dished out 50 assists to go with eight digs and two block assists.
 
Katie Campbell took part in five blocking duos and had a kill.
 
Brooke Heck led Concord with seven kills.
 
WJU continues its southern weekend swing on Saturday. The Cardinals battle the Tornado of Brevard at 2 p.m., before they take on host No. 25 Wingate beginning at 5 p.m.
