Falcons Blank Cardinals Men’s Soccer

WHEELING, W.Va. – Notre Dame College continued to have Wheeling Jesuit men's soccer number Wednesday night. The Falcons received three goals from Leonardo Paiva and blanked the Cardinals, 4-0, in Mountain East Conference action.
 
Paiva booted a penalty kick 16:27 into the match and added a second at 30:59 as the visiting Falcons (3-3/3-1 Mountain East Conference) opened a 2-0 lead over the Cardinals. WJU played an even second half, but were unable to put a goal on the scoreboard.
 
Daniel Undreiner attempted four shots and put three on goal, but the Cardinals (4-3/2-2 MEC) were unable to find the goal. Aitor Iniguz de Heredia also hit the cross bar on a free kick as the other WJU close goal try.
 
Notre Dame College did not outshoot WJU by a wide margin, 15-12, and 10-7 in shots on goal. Cardinals goalie Matt McCormick registered six saves.
 
Paiva made it a three-goal night with a final score (62:12), the lone second-half score. Lucas Silva Zanolla accounted for the visitors third goal before intermission at 35:09.
 
WJU faces its third Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe on Saturday afternoon. It travels for a 3:30 p.m. match at Slippery Rock.
