Cardinals Finish Strong Against Lakers, Triple up The Rock

WHEELING, W.Va. – On the first day of the Wheeling Jesuit Invitational, the Cardinals finished strong against the Lakers of Mercyhurst and swept Slippery Rock by the same score for three sets.
 
Leading 1-0, the Cardinals (9-2) netted the final four second-set points and ran off the final six fourth-set tallies in a straight-sets win over the Lakers (6-2), 25-19, 25-23 and 25-19.
 
In the second of back-to-back matches, WJU's entire team had a part in a three sets in a row of 25-18, 25-18, 25-18 totals over The Rock (5-4).
 
Kayce Krucki led the home team with 11 kills and six digs over Mercyhurst, while Maddy Smyth pounded 11 kills versus Slippery Rock.
 
Middle blocker Haley Kindall contributed a combined 17 kills and 10 total blocks. Lauran Graves added 15 kills with one error in 25 swings.
 
Freshmen Aleah Stauffer had three kills and Emily Reedy dug nine attacks.
 
The Cardinals complete their Invitational on Saturday. WJU plays an early morning 9 a.m. match against Seton Hill, before it completes the weekend in a 3 p.m. bout with Clarion.
