WJU Plays to Tie Against Fairmont State

WHEELING, W.Va. – Despite leading twice in the match and booting, more than double the shots, Wheeling Jesuit played to a 2-2 women's soccer tie with Fairmont State Sunday afternoon.

Jenny Soegaard-Andersen converted a long Nikki Hillard pass down the middle of the field and Kristen Garland knocked in her own rebound as the Cardinals (0-3-1/0-2-1 Mountain East Conference). The Falcons (2-2-1/0-2-1 MEC) received the game-tying goal by a 25-yard high-into-the-goal kick off the foot of Courtney Webb to tie, 2-2, at 84:35.

WJU kicked the only four shots of the two overtimes, but it could not find the net one last time.

"We created a ton of chances, but we didn't finish the easy ones," said WJU head coach Tyler Absalom. "At the final whistle, we take the responsibility on ourselves for not finishing things off like we should have."

The Cardinals attempted 22 shots to the Falcons 10. The home team also doubled Fairmont State in shots on goal, 10-5.

In her first career start, WJU goalie Megan Herter posted three saves in 110 minutes in net.

WJU plays at West Virginia Wesleyan next Thursday afternoon, Sept. 15, at 4 p.m.
