Tufnell and Deckert Sweep MEC Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Jessie Tufnell and Holly Deckert of the women's lacrosse team have swept this week's Mountain East Conference lacrosse awards. Tufnell has been named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Deckert earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Tufnell, a senior attacker from Flower Mound, Texas, guided the Cardinals offense to a perfect 3-0 week. She scored four goals against Alderson Broaddus last Thursday before adding six more goals to her season total in Friday's MEC opener vs Urbana. Tufnell completed her week with a five goal outing against West Virginia Wesleyan in which she also dished out three assists.

On the season, Tufnell ranks second in the MEC in goals (40) and points (55).

Deckert helped the WJU defense hold Alderson Broaddus and Urbana to a combined nine goals. She scored a goal vs Alderson Broaddus, and also picked up two groundballs vs both the Battlers and the Blue Knights. She added another groundball and a caused turnover on Sunday in WJU's 13-10 win at WV Wesleyan.

On the season, Deckert has collected 23 groundballs and forced 14 turnovers, which ranks third in the MEC.

The women's lacrosse team takes the field today, April 5 at 4 p.m. vs Edinboro University.
