WJU Scores 11 Runs in Game Two, Splits Twin Bill with Urbana

URBANA, Ohio – After falling to the Urbana Blue Knights, 5-1, in the first game on Saturday, the Cardinals offense exploded for 11 runs in game two. WJU went on to win, 11-3, splitting the day's doubleheader and the weekend series.

WJU improves to 14-14 on the season in the Mountain East Conference while Urbana falls to 13-15. The Cardinals now control their own destiny in the MEC, as they complete their regular season with four games against rival West Liberty. The winner of the series will advance to MEC postseason play.

Game 1:

Joe San Felippo started on the hill for the Cardinals. The junior right-hander lasted six innings, allowing five runs to score. Kyle Rees completed a scoreless seventh inning.

Brock McGivern, Jagger Bruck, Christopher Brake, and Adam Dennison each singled once in the contest. Logan Schickler doubled and drove in the Cardinals lone run in the fourth inning.

Game 2:

Benjamin Standiford earned his fourth victory of the season, improving to 4-5, as he tossed a complete game for the Cardinals. He struck out six hitters allowed three runs to score, all in the seventh inning.

Tony Connacher had his best hitting game of his season for the Cardinals. Connacher laced three doubles and finished the contest 4-4 with four RBI's and three runs scored.

Connacher put the Cardinals on the board first with a first inning double, scoring Dillon Sunnafrank and Jagger Bruck. He later scored on a Patrick Biega groundout.

WJU stretched its lead to 5-0 in the third inning off of a Logan Schickler single, scoring Connacher. In the next inning, Sunnafrank singled home McGivern, and the Cardinals led 6-0.

Schickler blasted a three-run homerun in the sixth inning, scoring Connacher and Sunnafrank and giving WJU a 9-0 advantage. Connacher doubled home Sunnafrank and Dennison in the seventh inning, and the Cardinals took an 11-0 lead.

Sunnafrank also supplied the Cardinals with four hits in game two. He scored three runs and drove in one RBI. Schickler finished 2-4 with four RBI's. McGivern added a double and scored once, while Biega and Dennison each singled once.
