Shepherd Edges and Takes Advantage of WJU Miscues

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University edged out Wheeling Jesuit in the softball opener, 6-4, before the host took advantage of seven visitors' errors in a 9-1 late victory on Saturday afternoon.

After the Cardinals (27-17/15-9 Mountain East Conference North) opened the day with three runs in their first at bat, the Rams (25-12/18-5) scored in four-straight frames and held on for the game one win. Shepherd broke open a 1-1 game with a big seven-run fourth off five WJU errors.

Leading WJU at the plate, Morgan Stohlman singled three times and drove in a run. Ali Smith and Dana Achille both doubled and singled with three combined RBI.

Freshman Jackie Cramer had her first two-hit game with a pair of game-two singles and drove in the team's lone run. Courtney Rogers added a double.

WJU wraps up its five doubleheader week with a Sunday pair at Fairmont State starting at 1 p.m.
