Rams Late Runs Helps Take Two from Cardinals

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – In the first of two days of the battle for the Mountain East Conference North Division lead, Shepherd registered late runs for a pair of wins over Wheeling Jesuit softball for 11-4 and 8-4 Friday wins.

A Dana Achille run-scoring single capped a three-run fifth, but the Cardinals (27-15/15-7 MEC North) pulled only within a run, before the Rams (23-12/16-5 MEC) added six sixth-frame tallies and sealed the win.

WJU pushed across four first-inning runs of game two, but it was held scoreless over the final seven frames. Shepherd scored multiple times in three innings for the comeback late win.

Morgan Stohlman doubled twice and singled two times to lead the Cardinals offense. Cassie Holstein singled twice in each game and scored two times.

Achille produced a RBI double and RBI single, while Marissa Cangelosi lined three game-two hits. Ali Smith chipped in two hits and two RBI. Mikaela Miller and Victoria Scott posted two hits apiece.

With the two wins, the Rams moved 1.5 games ahead of the Cardinals in the MEC North standings.

Due to schedule changes, the two softball teams return for another twinbill Saturday. First pitch will be 1 p.m.
