BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – For the second consecutive week, Holly Deckert has been named the Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Deckert led WJU to a 2-1 week including conference wins over Notre Dame College and Shepherd University. The Cardinals hold sole possession of first place in the MEC with a 4-0 record.
Deckert began the week with a groundball and one caused turnover against Edinboro before dominating the two conference contests. The junior defender picked up four groundballs and caused four turnovers against Notre Dame before recording an even more impressive outing on Sunday at Shepherd. She scooped up seven groundballs, forced five turnovers, and scored a goal in the Cardinals 11-10 victory.
Deckert finished the week with 12 groundballs, 10 caused turnovers, and one goal.
On the season, Deckert leads the MEC in caused turnovers (24) and is third in groundballs (35). Deckert and the women's lacrosse team host the University of Virginia's College at Wise on Friday, April 15 at 6 p.m.
