No. 2 Greyhounds Scores Early for Win Over Cardinals

CLERMONT, Fla. – The No. 2 University of Indianapolis softball team plated five first-inning runs and posted a 6-1 victory over Wheeling Jesuit Saturday morning.

The nationally-ranked Greyhounds received a first-frame Natalie Lalich grand slam and one more run, before the Cardinals (7-4) had a turned at the plate. WJU's Dana Achille lined a run-scoring triple to plate Kelsi Thompson as the lone score in the home sixth.

"Indy is a tough team. They do all the little things and are very disciplined. We got better as the game went on but it wasn't enough when we don't come ready at the start," said Cardinals head coach Kelli Williams.

WJU amassed only three hits on the day. Along with Achille's triple, Thompson led off the same inning with a single and Courtney Rogers had her first collegiate hit.

Wheeling Jesuit has almost a week off before it plays in a five-game weekend series in Salem, Va. The Cardinals open its Virginia weekend on Friday, March 11, with single games versus Gannon (3 p.m.) and Kutztown (5 p.m.)
