WJU Miscues Cost First Contest, Big-Inning Produces Softball Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Wheeling Jesuit softball team committed five miscues to cost them in Friday's first game, 10-1 against Kentucky Wesley, before a big-inning produced a split, 7-2 over Lake Superior State.

The Cardinals' (7-3) five errors led to 10 runs in the first-four innings with only a Dana Achille solo home run as the bright spot against the Panthers (2-13). Kelsi Thompson and Rachel Conrad's pair of two-run doubles keyed a seven-run fifth and helped put a win on the scoreboard versus the Lakers (3-7).

"We didn't come ready to play today and it showed," said Cardinals head coach Kelli Williams. "I hope they do tomorrow and finish off the week on a good note."

Thompson paced the WJU's 14 hits in the two contests with a double, two singles and two RBI. Along with her home run, Achille had a single, while Molly Welsh doubled and singled.

Cassie Holstein and Kori Locke both singled twice.

Locke picked up the mound win in game two.

WJU wraps up its Florida week trip with a single game against No. 2 University of Indianapolis. Game time is set for 9 a.m.
