WJU Uses Strong Finish, Defeats UIndy

WHEELING, W.Va. – After playing to an even first 45 minutes, Wheeling Jesuit used a four-goal fourth period and defeated the University of Indianapolis, 11-7, in men's lacrosse Saturday afternoon.
 
Trailing 7-6, the Cardinals (2-3) scored the match's final five goals overall covering 18:35 on the clock. After Bryce Brochu tied the match with 3:35 left in the third period, WJU received the deciding goal from Mike Stillings 4:57 into the final period. Sam Horning fired in two-straight and Dereck Downs finish the home scores in the final 8:24 for the 11-7 final.
 
On the day, Downs found the net four times and assisted on a fifth to pace the WJU attack. Horning netted a hat trick of three goals. McLean Fitzmartin added a pair of scores.
 
In the Cardinals net, Jake Lilly registered 13 saves for the win.
 
The Greyhounds received two goals from both Luke Allen and Matthew Johnson.
 
WJU will have a week off until it travels to St. Charles, Mo., at Lindenwood University for a Saturday, March 19, match starting at 2 p.m.
