Cardinals Fall to Dragons in Home Opener

Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. - The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team fell in its home-opener to Tiffin University, 13-7, Friday evening.

WJU trailed the Dragons 5-4 at the break before being outscored 8-3 over the final thirty minutes of play.

Elizabeth Hales continued her superior level of play and scored the first two goals of the contest, giving WJU a 2-0 advantage. The Dragons responded to score the next four goals, and would never trail again.

Hales scored the third Cardinal goal and Olivia Krock the fourth, and WJU tied the contest at four apiece with three minutes to go in the first half. Tiffin scored shortly after and took a 5-4 lead into the half.

The first two scores of the second half were all by Tiffin, and its lead grew to three, 7-4. Hales found the back of the net for the fourth time, and WJU trailed 7-5.

Tiffin would outscore WJU 6-2 down the stretch to pick up its second win of the early season. The Cardinals fell to 4-2 on the year.

Hales paced WJU once again with her four scores and two assists. Krock, Paige Plesich, and Mary Burns each scored once for the Cardinals. Jessie Tufnell handed out two assists on the evening.

Brianna Wahle forced two turnovers and was one of five Cardinals who picked up one groundball each.

WJU returns to the field on March 22 to host Slippery Rock University at 6 p.m.
