Cardinals Celebrate Seniors, Clinch Share of MEC Title

WHEELING, W.Va. – With the most celebrated and successful senior class in program history honored prematch, Wheeling Jesuit clinched a share of the 2016 Mountain East Conference Regular Season title. The Cardinals claimed straight-set victories over league foe Notre Dame College and added a second Saturday win over Malone.

 
The No. 5 Cardinals (32-2) ran off 13-straight first-set points and produced a 25-9, 25-12, 25-13 win over the Falcons (15-16/7-7 MEC). The WJU win ran its MEC mark to 14-0 and earned a MEC title share with two league matches remaining next weekend. WJU added a win over Malone (25-13, 25-13, 25-15) later in the afternoon.

Before the opening match, WJU honored its six seniors – Haley Kindall, Andrea Thobe, Kayce Krucki, Emma Schleucher, Katie Campbell and Sam Obringer. The group secured their 146th and 147th-collegiate victories on the day.
 
Kindall totaled a team-best 24 kills on the day, including a season-high 17 against Malone (7-22), and hit .647. Schleucher and Campbell pounded 13 and nine kills in the victory over Notre Dame College. 
 
Krucki chipped in nine kills against the Falcons and 17 digs versus the Pioneers. Thobe totaled 69 assists, while Obringer added 14 digs and two aces.
 
WJU returns home for a tough home match Tuesday night against Ashland. The first serve will be 7 p.m.
