WJU Falls to Walsh, 56-52

WALSH, Ohio – The Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball team dropped its first contest of the season Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals fell to the hosting Walsh Cavaliers, 56-52.
 
WJU (5-1) jumped out to an early lead, and would win the first quarter, 19-12. Walsh (4-2) battled back in the second period, and the contest was tied, 32-32, heading into the halftime break.
 
The Cavaliers won the third period by a single point ,13-12, and would take their one-point advantage into the final 10 minutes of action. WJU managed to score just eight points, and would fall to the Cavaliers, 56-52.
 
Chenelle Moore and Jaana Motton guided WJU with 12 points and two assists each. Moore grabbed a team best nine rebounds while Motton secured seven boards.
 
Mariah Callen joined Moore and Motton in double figures with her 11 points. Callen also dished out two assists while recording three rebounds.
 
Kylie Frizell handed out a game-high six helpers to go along with her eight points and five rebounds. Monica Burns added five points and Chelsea Richardson scored four.
 
WJU returns to league play when it hosts Fairmont State on Wednesday, November 30 at 5:30 p.m.
