Cardinals Win Final Minutes Again, Clip Falcons

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – For the second time in a row, the Cardinals finished strong for the Mountain East Conference road win. The Wheeling Jesuit men's basketball team won the final five minutes and clipped Notre Dame College, 83-74, Monday night.

The Falcons (3-2/0-2 MEC) nailed five 3-pointers and a conventional 3-point play and reversed a 10-point deficit to a 64-63 lead at 5:55 left. The Cardinals (5-0/2-0 MEC) took back the momentum with an 8-0 spurt over the next 1:44 behind a pair of Pat Moseh layups for a 71-64 new found lead. Notre Dame College hit one more 3-pointer, but WJU held strong in the final moments for the victory.

"It was a good team win. Kyle (Ritz) and Dom (Tham) did a great job defending Notre Dame's Will Vorhees inside. Chase (Lawson) and Preston (Boswell) shot the ball well," said WJU's coach Danny Sancomb. "Pat (Moseh) did a great job getting to the rim. Our team defense in the last 10 minutes was key."

The Cardinals pumped in 6 of 8 second-half treys, including a pair from both Chase Lawson and Preston Boswell. Lawson paced the team with 18 points and hit 5 of 10 long-range attempts, while Boswell drained 5 of 6 triples for 15 points.

Pat Moseh dumped in 16 points on 6 of 12 from the floor to go with four rebounds and three assists.

Kyle Ritz and Haywood Highsmith combined for 17 points and 19 rebounds.

Off the WJU bench, Dom Tham made all four of his shots for eight points and pulled down three boards. Jarin Hilson went 4 for 4 in the final minute from the foul line as part of his six-point and four-assist night.

The Falcons' Kyauta Taylor connected on six 3-pointers in 12 tries for a game-best 21 points.

After leading 36-34 at the half, WJU build the margin to 13 points, 55-42, on a Tham layup between two Boswell 3-pointers at 13:06.

Notre Dame College made six triples over the next seven minutes for its comeback attempt.

WJU has eight days off before it hosts Fairmont State on Wednesday, Nov. 30, in a 7:30 p.m. battle.
