Cardinals Fall to Bobcats, 1-0

WHEELING, W.Va. – In a tightly contested Mountain East Conference matchup on Friday night, the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats outlasted the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals, 1-0.

The Bobcats (8-0-3, 7-0-3 MEC) struck for the game's only goal in the 20th minute of action. Marissa Zetty took a pass from teammate Natalie Prater and scored from 10 yards out in the middle of the field.

Micah Miller nearly tied the contest for the Cardinals at the end of the first half. With 4:02 remaining, Miller blasted a kick from 30 yards out that soared off the goalpost.

WJU (2-8-1, 1-7-1 MEC) saw a trio of opportunities denied throughout the second half of play. In the 66th minute of action, Sydney Lavengood and Jenny Soegaard-Andersen both had opportunities turned away by the Bobcat keeper.

One minute later, Miller had a shot saved and Meghan Horan was able to control the loose ball, later firing a shot that was barely saved by the opposing goalkeeper.

Horan, Lavengood and Miller led the Cardinals with three shots each while Natalie Indermuhle and Emily Hartley added two shots apiece. Morgan Jacobson and Soegaard-Andersen each tallied one shot.

WJU travels to Fairmont State on Sunday, October 9 for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
