Cardinals Coast Past Rams

WHEELING, W.Va. – In a return home, the Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team wasted no time and coasted past Shepherd University, 3-0, in Mountain East Conference Friday night action.
 
The No. 5 Cardinals (17-2/5-0 MEC) produced three-straight double-figure set wins by finals of 25-12, 25-10 and 25-10 over the Rams (7-12/2-3 MEC).
 
Middle blocker Lauran Graves downed six first-set kills and added four more over the final two sets for a team-high 10 kills without an error on 14 swings and .714 hit percentage.
 
Aleah Stauffer and Maddy Smyth pounded seven kills apiece as part of a WJU attack which hit .444 for the night.
 
Andrea Thobe contributed 39 assists, nine digs, two blocks and an ace directing the home offense.
 
Peyton Lindblad guided the Rams' offense with eight kills of her team's 18.
 
WJU continues its weekend home set as it faces one of the other co-MEC leaders in Fairmont State Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Cardinals also take on the Huskies of Michigan Tech in a 5 p.m. as part of a tri-match.
